This testimony, written by Ivani Greppi, is very powerful, and I pray it blesses all of those that read it, as much as it blessed me! Thank you Ivani for allowing me to share it! ~ Dana Emanuel

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11, NIV).

FOREWORD
“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6, NIV).

Twenty-one years ago, a missionary pastor from Brazil visited Pyramid Printing, my parent’s mom and pop shop in Kissimmee, Florida. God used this casual event—a simple business card order—to deliver us from generations of occult practices. This is a summary of what my family and I experienced during decades of being deceived by Satan through the practice of spiritism.

My parents, sister, and I were born in Brazil. Our European ancestors, brought with them to the New World, occult beliefs and rituals practiced for generations before them. I became a fourth generation spiritist medium in Brazil.

My father’s paternal grandparents came from Italy. His Sicilian grandmother was a healer who used potions, herbs, and incantations to heal ailments, as well as spiritual harm caused by “evil-eye” curses. Dad’s father, exhibited strong psychic abilities. As a young boy, he alerted his parents about a fox killing all piglets in the pen. But when his parents checked the animals, the suckling piglets were intact, sleeping next to the sow.

Later, the scene repeated, however this time the family witnessed the fox escape with a piglet dangling from its jaw after killing the entire litter as my grandfather predicted. One of grandfather’s visions even saved a man’s life who went missing after his horse returned home alone. Grandfather accurately described the area where the man lay injured after a rattlesnake spooked his horse.

My mother’s ancestors, immigrated to Brazil from Spain. All practiced spiritism. My maternal great-grandmother, grandmother, and grandfather were mediums. Family, neighbors, and friends often brought sick children to their home to be blessed, or to receive spiritual energy “passes”. The healings included removal of the “evil-eye”, fevers, spiritual attachments, even intestinal worms. Teas, herbal baths, incense cleansing, and lighting of candles in honor of spirit guides, and guardian angels were prescribed for cures.

The Gospel According to Spiritism by Allen Kardec was our “bible”. This 1800’s French educator codified spiritism. One of his missions was to clarify the teachings of Jesus “inaccurately” translated in the Bible. We believed in reincarnation and lived in communion with spirits in relation to the corporeal world through Kardec’s mantra: “To be born, to die, to be reborn yet again, and to always progress—that is the natural law.”

We called ourselves Catholics, but for traditional purposes only: Weddings, child baptisms, and seventh day masses for the dead. In reality we rejected traditional religion and did not believe in heaven or hell. “Crentes” (Christian believers) who came door-to-door evangelizing were not welcomed. When they stood behind our property fence, clapping at the gate announcing their presence, we shunned them.

At the age of fourteen while living in Brazil, my indoctrination to develop as a practicing medium happened at a Umbanda Temple. Until meeting the Brazilian pastor at the age of thirty-eight, I had never read the Bible, much less heard about eternal Salvation in Jesus Christ.

We were not evil. We truly believed communication with spirits came from God. And our psychic abilities, a gift from Him.

PART I
“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead” (Deuteronomy 18:10-11, NIV).

I am five-years-old. Once again, I am awakened from innocent sleep. The type of sleep only children experience. Wide-eyed, I stare into a sea of deep blackness. In the void, someone, or something is hovering close to our pull-out sofa. Watching. Glaring. Fear claws at my heart. A chill envelops me. My skin prickles with raised bumps, and my scalp tingles. Too scared to blink, yet too terrified to see what is behind the blanketing darkness, I try to scream. Only low, garbled sounds escape my lips. Air catches in my throat. My lungs burn for oxygen. Am I dying? My vocal cords and muscles are completely paralyzed. The only movement possible is through my eyelids: Blinking, shutting tight, opening wide.

It is closer now. Menacing. Cruel. Hostile. There is palpable evil filling the atmosphere. While I struggle with invisible chains choking the life out of me, my younger sister stirs. I hear her steady breathing, and the swooshing of blood pounding against my eardrums. Finally, I break free. A scream shatters the silence. It takes a second to realize I am the one screaming. Shaken, I sit up crying out for my mother. And through the dimness I see silhouettes across the room: A chair, the television set with rabbit ears, and papai’s turntable console where a shadowy figure retreats behind, then passes through the wall.

My sister bolts up awake. She hugs my trembling body. Her voice is warm against my cheek, “Don’t cry…mamãe’s coming.” A door creaks open and shuts with a click. The hallway light comes on. My mother’s flip-flops slap the floor in hurried steps. Shushing, she enters the room. It takes many hugs and kisses to finally calm me, “I’ll get you some sugar-water. And tomorrow, you’ll see. Vovó, will make the vultos go away, yes?”

Vultos are shadow people, or spiritual attachments. In spiritism they are described as disincarnated, wandering spirits. Vovó, my grandmother said even though the spirits scared me, they meant me no harm. Because I was a vidente (seer of the spirit world), I was only a vessel used by the spirits to communicate through. When I matured physically, emotionally, and mentally, I would be ready to develop as a medium. This was my mission here on earth.

Today, Vovó blesses me while I sit on her lap. With pinched fingers, she makes crosses over my head, my forehead, back, and chest while praying words I cannot understand. Her fingers snap above my bowed head, my bangs a thin blond curtain over my eyes. I stare at the floor—a patchwork of red ceramic tile fragments laid piece-by-piece by my father. Beneath the table, a mosaic pattern of different colored fragments in the shape of a five-point star. Vovó yawns. Tears on her cheeks streak the rice powder she applies every morning, “There. All better,” smiling she caresses my hair with both hands, “all you need now is a sprig of rue behind your ear to protect you.”

PART II
“When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isaiah 8:19, NIV)

As I grow, I continue to see shadow people, or sense their ominous presence following me everywhere I go. Day or night. At school, or while at play. It seems like the rituals make little to no impact on how they constantly torture me. I cannot be left alone anywhere. My younger sister is tired of chaperoning me whenever I have to go into a room, including the bathroom, I’m ashamed to admit. When I have no choice but to enter a room by myself, bruises covering my arms and legs are testimony to my fight-or-flight response. It’s not possible to fight the invisible. Escaping the threat, I crash against walls and furniture, trip and fall when unseen forces seem to push and shove me about.

During second grade vacation, my mother took me to spend a week with her paternal grandmother, and aunt. I hated going there, but I never expressed this to my parents. Their house was filled with shadows, even on the sunniest days. But what frightened me most about this place were the two vicious German Shepherds chained behind the chicken-wire fence in their backyard.

After supper, I stand behind the kitchen’s screen door watching my great-aunt feed the dogs our scraps. It’s twilight, and there’s a purplish glow in the sky projecting lilac shadows about the yard. Birds peck at papaya peels scattered on the grass next to the herb garden. The dogs strain at their chains, baring teeth dripping with saliva at the food being set in their bowls.

My attention turns to the groaning hinges of the gate at the front of the property. Fear grips me when I see a middle-aged man enter the yard. Wearing a black suit and tie, his shiny shoes tap the tiled walkway. Smoke from his cigarette billows above his slicked- back hair.

How did he unlock the gate? Why aren’t the dogs barking?

He is fast approaching my great-aunt’s stooped body. Oblivious to the intruder, she caresses the dogs’ heads while they devour their meal. When I try to scream to warn her, I become paralyzed. It’s the same type of paralysis when I’m asleep. Straining to scream, my mouth is wide open, but I have no voice. With arms extended, the man bends over to embrace her from behind. But before touching my great-aunt, he vanishes into a puff of smoke.

The next morning, my great-grandmother took me to her medium friend. She wanted to know if the man I saw was her husband, my deceased great-grandfather coming to visit his daughter. The medium’s spirit guide confirmed it was her husband and instructed my grandmother to tell my mom to take me to the Mesa Branca (White Table) Spiritist Center in our neighborhood for counseling on my mediumship development.
In the Mesa Branca séance meetings, mediums sit around a table covered in white linen. A vase with white roses, a jar with water and several glasses are set at the center of the table. The “patients” sit in chairs placed against the walls. The Center is always filled with people looking for guidance from spirit guides regarding health, relationships, finances, and spiritual matters.

Waiting for the session to begin, I stare at a charcoal drawing of Jesus blessing a boy kneeling at his feet. There are shelves with several statues around the room: St. George slaying a dragon, St. Joseph holding a baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Our Lady of Aparecida, the venerated black Madonna and patron saint of Brazil. Candles flicker casting elongated shadows on the walls. Sweet incense fragrance fills the atmosphere.

Through clinks of a beaded curtain, the medium enters the room wearing all white. She is joined by three other mediums also dressed like doctors. They sit around the table, and the session opens in prayer inviting the spirit guides of light to join us. Moaning, the head medium, an elderly woman with bluish hair, channels her spirit guide. Her body convulses, and the table shakes splashing water from the jar on the tablecloth. The mediums take turns reading from The Gospel According to Spiritism. Soon after the readings, the “patients” stand before each medium to receive their spiritual consultations and healing energy “passes”.

When I receive my “pass”, the medium repeats what my grandmother has told us for years: I have a gift, but I’m too young still to develop my mediumship abilities and receive (channel) my spirit guides. No matter how often we attend the meetings, or how carefully my mother performs the rituals prescribed to cleanse our home and bodies of negative energy, the attacks only intensify as I get older.
My psychic abilities also increase, giving me a sense of power. My intuition is strong, and sometimes I can read people’s minds. Revelations of things no child should be privy to is a burden I cannot share with anyone. Since I’m not emotionally prepared to process these things, I become an ultra-sensitive and moody child.

PART III
“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1, NIV)

In 1968, after years of applying for a Visa, our family was granted entry to America. It’s a complicated story of how we came to this country, specifically Massachusetts. In short, my father’s mother was born in Taunton, Massachusetts and lived there until the age of six. She eventually immigrated to Brazil, but never lost her American citizenship. Two years after the death of her husband, my grandmother returned to her country of birth in 1966, reuniting with her mother after decades of separation.

Two years later, we embarked in search of the Great American Dream.
I was nine, my sister eight when we immigrated. We adjusted well to the English language and culture. My mother however did not. This was my father’s dream, not hers. They had an agreement to live here for five years, work hard, save money, and return to Brazil. Dealing with my spiritual attacks in this country was difficult. There were no mediums, or spiritist Centers that we knew of to seek help. We learned right away, our beliefs were not something to discuss openly in American culture. My mother did her best finding herbs for cleansing baths and incense at the local A&P. And we kept our faith a well-guarded secret.

Sleep paralysis, seeing spirits, hearing noises, and footsteps in the ancient house we lived was a common occurrence. From Brazil, my grandmother mailed us books on spiritism to study, and attended the Mesa Branca on our behalf.

PART IV
“The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will bring their plans to nothing; they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, the mediums and the spiritists” (Isaiah 19:3, NIV)

Five years later, my parents sent us back to Brazil to live with my maternal grandparents. They would join us as soon as they saved enough to buy a house in Brazil. Even though my sister and I were excited to return home, America was also home to us now.

One night not long after returning to Brazil, while watching the telenovela with my grandparents, sister, and cousins, I had my second fully awake paralysis experience.

It’s the highlight moment of the telenovela’s cliff-hanger episode. From the corner of my eye, I notice an entity enter the hallway. Paralysis takes over my body. Watching in silent horror, I see the translucent, bluish form of an elderly man enter the living room. Even though I can’t hear what he is saying, I can tell he’s angry. His scowling features are surprisingly visible, even if I can see through him. For a few moments he stands there, waving his arms, trying to get our attention. With a dismissive gesture, he bows his head in defeat before turning away, and leaving the room. Released from the paralysis, my screams shocked everyone out of their seats.

When I told them through tears what happened, they groaned in annoyance. The most awaited moment of the program was interrupted. My grandmother was livid. I could tell by her high arched eyebrow. She ordered me to follow her to the kitchen. To my surprise, she also saw the entity. Her anger was not because I disrupted the show, but how I reacted toward a spirit in need—her grandfather. Her reprimand about my spiritual immaturity cut deep. Why was she angry with me for something I had no idea how to control? After all these years, I still had no direction. She advised me to study Kardec’s books again. And insisted I return to the Mesa Branca sessions for mediumship development.

After sharing this experience with two of my aunts, they invited me to come with them to the Umbanda Spiritist Center they had recently joined. I wasn’t familiar with Umbanda, and my aunt explained it me.

Umbanda, a religion brought to Brazil by African slaves, is syncretized with Catholicism. When the slave masters forced the slaves to worship the Catholic saints, the slaves bowed at the altar, however when their foreheads touched the ground they worshipped the images of their own gods buried beneath the altar. In Umbanda there is one supreme god. The deities worshipped are called Orixás. Each Orixá is also represented by a color and, or element.

For example: Oxalá (Jesus) is white. Iemanjá (Virgin Mary), the sea goddess is blue. Xangô (St. John), god of thunder is red and brown. Ogum (St. George) god of war is dark blue and green. There are legions, phalanges, ranks or hierarchies such as: Spirits of African slaves, children, gypsies, and sailors. However, the “left side” or dark forces must be worshipped too. Once a month, Exu (a demon-like deity), is celebrated to ensure he will continue to be the guardian of the Umbanda temple called “terreiro”, keeping dark forces at bay. Pomba-gira, is the female part to Exu. (Incubus and Succubus like spirits).

This fascinated me, and the following week, I attended my first Umbanda service. When we arrived at the temple, an unassuming blue building, we waited outside with a group of mediums. The guests arrived in throngs, walking in the front door. I peeked in from the side door, the mediums’ entrance, and noticed the guests being ushered to benches. A low fence, with a small gate separated the worship area terreiro, from the congregation seating area. A large altar called congá, extended across most of the front wall of the terreiro. It was covered in white lace with many statues of Orixás, candles, and flowers. Two tall atabaque hand drums made of wood, sat at each side of the congá.

When the Pai de Santo (the head medium) arrived, my aunt introduced me. He was a short, kindly looking man, and like all the other mediums, he wore white clothing and beads around his neck.

He takes my hand, and I am mesmerized by the brilliant pool of his blue eyes. I can’t blink when he speaks to me. Hypnotized by his gaze, I listen intently to his words, “Welcome sister. You are from the waters…daughter of Iemanjá. You are ready to develop your mediumship. Welcome.” My heart accelerates. I am light-headed. Something is stirring in my soul. There’s such a strong spiritual presence here. But it’s different. It’s beautiful. Hopeful. Soothing. At last, at the age of fourteen, the search for my purpose in life is revealed.

I join the guests behind the fenced area. My feet will not step on the sacred ground of the terreiro until I’m invited to do so. Incense smoke clears the room of negative energy. The mediums enter, forming a semi-circle around the room. The Pai de Santo bows, before the altar touching his forehead to the base three times. Pounding his chest with closed fist, he salutes the Orixás. With chalk in hand, he kneels drawing a circle with symbols inside on the cement floor. When he finishes, a lighted candle is placed in the center of the pentagram.

Drumming thunders across the room. Bodies sway from side-to-side. Hands clap to the percussion rhythm. Voices sing in worship to the gods. The Pai de Santo mounted by his spirit guide Xangô, thumps his chest in salutation. Speaking in an African sounding language, mingled with broken Portuguese he summons the spirits. The mediums take turns receiving their spirit guides. Shoulders shake. Bodies convulse and writhe. Dancing breaks-out. Voices raise in chants.

My heart is about to explode. The room is spinning. Electric current-like vibrations cause me to shake uncontrollably. Xangô commands me to enter the terreiro. Someone tells me to remove my shoes. I do this without hesitation. At the altar, I bow before the Orixás.

Hyperventilating, I stand before the Pai de Santo for the energy pass. Swaying, I notice a female medium with outstretched arms, stand behind me. Momentarily I lose consciousness and find myself being lifted from the floor by two other mediums. A siren song resonates all around me in worship to my goddess, Iemanjá.

My life is Umbanda. Umbanda is my life. My mediumship is developing well. This is the happiest time of my life, except I miss my parents terribly. It’s been over a year since we left America, and there’s no set date for them to reunite with us yet.
The next step in my spiritual progression is to be baptized at a waterfall. Waterfalls have tremendous vibrations, and energy to cleanse spiritual impurities, I’m told.

At the base of the waterfall’s veil, I step before the Pai de Santo. The slippery rock is cool against the soles of my feet. I have no fear of falling into the bubbling pool below. He takes my hands summoning my spirit guide. Frigid water showers over my bowed head. Like a bolt of lightning, Iemanjá possesses me. Violently, my head snaps back and forth. My long, wet hair arches high over my head, whipping my face repeatedly. When I come out of my trance, I’m overwhelmed with joy and peace.

PART V
“The seers will be ashamed and the diviners disgraced. They will all cover their faces because there is no answer from God” (Micah 3:7, NIV).

A few months later, my parents returned to Brazil. This was supposed to be the happiest time of our lives, but soon enough our lives took a turn for the worse. Constantly my parents fought. My father hated Brazil. My mother loved it. Only a few months after their arrival, my parents placed a life changing decision in my and my sister’s hands. If we wanted to stay in Brazil, my mother would stay with us, but my father would return alone to America. However, if we decided to return to America, the four of us would go back together. This was a heavy burden for me at fifteen, and my sister at fourteen to bear. Even though my sister was madly in love with a boy she dated since we arrived, she and I agreed we must all return together. Both our hearts are broken. Hers for her boyfriend. Mine for Umbanda.

Before leaving Brazil, the Pai de Santo told me never to channel my spirit guide unless it was in the presence of an experienced medium. I vowed to keep this promise, knowing it would be impossible to find mediums in Massachusetts. (This was in 1975. At present, mediums and spiritist centers can be found almost anywhere in America).

After returning to Massachusetts, my parents bought a beautiful home sitting on a hill, with a pond in the backyard. For the first time in our lives, my sister and I had our own rooms. New furniture and appliances. Nice cars. In high school, I reconnected with old friends, and dated a boy I fell in love with before returning to Brazil. We had a lot in common. He also immigrated from Brazil in the 1960’s, and his grandmother who lived in São Paulo not far from my family, was also a medium.

And at first, everyone was content. Except for my sister. She was miserable without her boyfriend. After a year, she returned to live with my grandparents in Brazil. I continued to worship Iemanjá, faithfully. At the beach, I offered her flowers. Blue candles were lit in her honor. In my room, her statue and my aquamarine beads were a constant reminder of my love for Umbanda and the Orixás. Of course, I still saw shadow people, continued to have sleep paralysis, and vivid psychic dreams. But through Umbanda, I believed my spiritual life was under control.

When my sister decided to get married at sixteen, my father didn’t approve, and wrote asking her to wait. Besides, we couldn’t afford to make another expensive trip to Brazil now. My sister insisted on going forward with the wedding plans. Here in America, our lives began to fall apart. My parents were on the brink of a divorce. The day my sister married, my mother almost lost her mind with grief. The atmosphere at home was heavy with oppression, and depression. No matter how much I prayed to Iemanjá to help, things only got worse.

Through vivid dreams, and whisperings of spirits in my ear, I developed mistrust and intense jealousy for my boyfriend. Like my parents, we fought all the time. There was no peace. No joy. Miraculously, our relationship survived my constant bouts of jealousy and accusations.

We received wonderful news a few months later. My sister was pregnant. Plans to arrive for the baby’s birth moved forward. Even my boyfriend would travel with us. Soon after my high school graduation, we left for Brazil.

My sister gave birth to a sweet baby boy. He only lived for four days. This was a tsunami of devastating pain. Unimaginable, what my sister and brother-in-law were going through. Words from mediums saying the baby’s life was short because of his high-level spirit, and his corporal mission here on earth was completed, did not bring us consolation.

After the funeral, I visited the Umbanda terreiro. During worship, a girl next to me was mounted by her spirit guide. While I bowed my head attempting to concentrate to receive Iemanjá, the girl spun in dance, violently hitting my face with the back of her hand. My concentration broke and I looked up, only to receive another full-blown slap. Her aggression, a poorly disguised ruse through wild dancing. Tears stung my eyes, when I heard gasps and snickering coming from the congregation. The Pai de Santo stood before me calling on Iemanjá for a long time while I sobbed in anger and shame. I knew the girl had done it on purpose. It was impossible for me, in my emotional, contaminated state to receive Iemanjá. And this was the last time I attended the Umbanda terreiro.

When we visited my boyfriend’s grandmother a few days later, her spirit guide told me I could no longer allow my body to remain open. The spirit explained it was too dangerous since I was not regularly attending a temple under the direction of a strong medium. Like a magnet, this left me open for evil entities to enter my body. Devastated, I reluctantly agreed. She performed the ritual to close the chakra where spirits entered my body. Someday, when I was ready again, this would be reversed.

I vowed never to set foot in Brazil again. Despondent, my sister decided to return to America with us. Her husband stayed behind to wait for his visa documentation.
After returning to America, my life became an ash heap of hopeless oppression. The strong pillars of my faith, came crashing to the ground.

PART VI
“I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people” (Leviticus 20:6)

The first thing I did upon returning to America, was to remove Iemanjá from the shelf in my room. In a cardboard box, I stored her image along with my beads. From that moment on, the spiritual attacks only intensified, and I didn’t know where to turn to for help.

After a few months, my brother-in-law arrived, only a day before the Great Blizzard of 1978. In June, I was married at nineteen. We bought our first home and had good jobs. We went out and had fun with friends and family. But inside, I was dead. I went through the motions of life with no joy. No peace.

Four years later my son was born. My daughter four years after my son. In the surface our lives looked perfect. My sister also had another boy and a girl, both healthy and beautiful. My parents mended their marriage and enjoyed their grandchildren. But spiritually we all spiraled into a black hole of despair.

My parents, sister, brother-in-law, my husband and I decided we needed a change of scenery. Perhaps moving to Florida and starting a new life in a warmer climate would help raise our spirits. The gray New England winters seemed to be getting longer each year.

Living in Florida was great at first. We all had lovely new homes, swimming pools, and gorgeous beaches nearby. But soon, the spiritual contamination returned to plague us. Even the children were affected by the hell brewing around us night and day. Sometimes they saw or heard things that scared them. Sensing an evil presence particularly in my bedroom, my children refused to enter my bedroom alone.

On many occasions, pounding noises above our bed startled us awake. Once, sounds of shattering glass like a rock thrown through a window had us all scrambling out of bed. We inspected the entire house. The windows were all intact, and we found nothing out-of-place or broken anywhere.

My mood was usually foul, angry, bitter. People walked on eggshells trying not to set off my explosive outbursts. Once I was triggered, anything could happen. I was reckless in my fits of rage, especially when driving. The children white knuckled, held on to their seats for dear life. When my temper flared, whatever I got my hands on became a projectile across the room. My hysterics and madness transformed into guilt and shame once the tempest in my soul calmed. And for reasons I can’t fathom, my husband had the strength to tolerate my violent temper for years.

My health suffered to such extent I had only enough energy to work as an operating room nurse for my shifts. When I got home, I passed out on the couch, unable to cook, clean or care for my family. There were times when I contemplated ending it all, spurred on by sinister voices whispering there was no hope. I was worthless. Insignificant. Love for my children was the only thing keeping me from jumping into the abyss.

When my sister phoned me to tell me she met a pastor from Brazil at the printing shop, my suspiciousness went into overdrive. She became emotional describing his beautiful prayer for her. She told me after he prayed, she felt a peace she never had experienced before. Like a volcano, words of pure hatred for this man I never met erupted from my mouth. I warned her to keep away from him. He was no doubt a charlatan looking for money.

This did not dissuade her from gushing about how he also prayed with my teen nephew. And how the pastor encouraged him to marry the girl he recently impregnated. My nephew not only agreed to this but swore off drugs as well. I didn’t believe her. Personally, I took him to counseling for help with his addiction, with no positive results.
She invited the pastor to come for coffee at her house the following Saturday. My parents were going to be there too. And she wanted us to join them. I refused the invitation.

After hanging up with her, I reconsidered. If this holy man believed he could weasel himself in my family with his self-righteous teachings, I would be there to confront him.
On Saturday, I arrived at my sister’s house armed and ready to fight. We walked in to see the pastor, my parents, sister and brother-in-law at the table, drinking coffee and eating cake. At the sight of the pastor rising from his chair, making his way to greet us, I froze in place with burning hatred for him. Embarrassed, my sister got up from her chair, “Pastor, this is my sister. The one we’ve been praying for.”

“I don’t remember asking anyone to pray for me.”

Unfazed, the pastor extended his hand. My husband shook the man’s hand and made his way the table. But the pastor didn’t budge when I ignored his hand. During our standoff, he touched my shoulder saying the Lord brought him here to help me and my family.

Suddenly, there was such a strong presence of my spirit guide, like I had not experienced in years. I was warned. This was an ambush by the pastor. He was cunning and must be struck down. It was impossible to remain in close proximity to the pastor. I sidestepped him and headed for the patio telling my husband to finish his cake so we could leave.

Slamming the sliding glass door with force, I sat by the pool. With trembling hands, I lit a cigarette. My wrath for the man was insurmountable. Seconds later, the patio door swooshed open. I could not believe the man followed me outside with Bible in hand. Abruptly, I rose from my chair stunning the man to stop in his tracks. My face flushed when I told him I was not interested in talking about religion.

With maddening calmness, the man quoted scripture, “If you call upon His name, He will answer you. He will be with you in trouble. He will deliver you and honor you. With long life He will satisfy you and show you His salvation.”

Snuffing out my cigarette, I told him I didn’t believe in a book written by men to control people through fear and condemnation. Furthermore, he couldn’t manipulate me like he did my sister and rest of the family, “I have spirit guides to protect me. I don’t need your religion.”

I brushed past him, but he followed me back inside. “Sister, there are no such things as spirit guides.” He opened the Bible, jabbing the page with his index finger, “These are demons you listen to.”

I whirled around to face my family. Were they listening? Did he not offend them? It baffled me how no one reacted to this stranger’s arrogance in criticizing our beliefs. With patience, my mother suggested I at least listen to what the man had to say. What if this was true? What if what we believed our entire lives was not from God?

My head was throbbing, and I squeezed it between my hands. The room went silent except for the sounds of the onion-skin Bible pages turning. Like seismic waves, my anger rose. The last thing I wanted was to give him the satisfaction of seeing me lose control. Grabbing my purse, I told my husband we had to go.

“Before you leave sister, I challenge you to read with your own eyes what the Word of God has taught for thousands of years: Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”

Through clenched teeth, I reminded him the Bible meant nothing to me.

Finally, my father interceded and told me to sit. All the arguing was getting us nowhere. He suggested the pastor ask me about my beliefs, before judging. At last, I had an ally. Taking a seat, I accepted a cup of coffee from my sister’s extended hand.

“Fair enough,” he tapped his Bible, “You don’t believe in heaven, or hell, correct? Tell me what happens to people when they die?”

My response was obvious: Spirits pass through many stages of evolution. What he called demons were merely obsessive spirits in parallel dimensions here on earth. They can’t evolve because they choose not to. The good spirits of light are superior, evolved spirits. Before our own spirits achieve this light, they are reincarnated until attaining it.

Taking his Bible, he pointed to a verse and asked me to read it. But I crossed my arms, refusing the offer. Smiling, he said there was no such thing as reincarnation, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement.”

Something about those words, peaked my interest. And for a millisecond, I wanted to hear more. Nevertheless, with a dismissive wave I told him it was pointless trying to discuss what I believed with him if he kept referencing the Bible.

When the time came for him to leave, he offered to pray for us, inviting everyone to join hands in a circle. I refused. But with a warning look, my father snatched my hand, and my husband grabbed the other, closing the circle.

As soon as the pastor began to pray, what I believed to be my spirit guide, suddenly manifested. Laughter spilled from my mouth unchecked. The harder I tried to stop, the more I laughed. Through my trance, I heard the pastor yell, “In the name of Jesus Christ! Come out of her, evil spirit!”

The entity had a hold of me. Writhing in pain, coming in and out of consciousness, I couldn’t understand what was happening. How could I be possessed, if my chakra was closed years ago? I was close to passing out. My heart pounded. My chest hurt. Perspiration beaded on my face. And I begged the pastor to stop, thinking this was his doing.

My father came to my rescue and ordered the pastor to let me be. Finally breaking free, I ran to the bathroom and vomited, not the coffee I drank a few minutes before, but a clear gelatinous substance. Feeling spent and betrayed, I told everyone in no uncertain terms that I never wanted to see the pastor again.

PART VII
“Jesus asked him, ‘What is your name?’ ‘Legion,’ he replied, because many demons had gone into him” (Luke 8:30, NIV).

After the experience at my sister’s house, I began to doubt my spirit guide’s identity. About spiritism in general. Even though I was not yet convicted, it broke my heart to hear the pain in my husband’s voice when he suggested for the pastor to at least come to the house and pray. He described how hideously distorted, and disfigured I became while possessed. My teenage son and nephew witnessed part of the possession. Both were distraught and begged me to let the pastor help me. Even though I was confused and conflicted, out of love for my family, I finally agreed to a deliverance session.

The pastor instructed my entire family to fast, and to remain in prayer on the day of my deliverance, Saturday, March 29th, 1997. He and his wife were scheduled to arrive at my house at five in the afternoon. I fasted too and tried to read the leather-bound Bible he gave me. My husband and children left to join my parents, sister and family at my sister’s house to remain in intercessory prayer.

While alone, I had second thoughts about the deliverance. Panic took over me. Voices kept whispering for me to flee. To run away before he arrived. I took the Bible but couldn’t open it. I tried to pray, but my mind became flooded with alarming threats. Unable to stand the tension any longer, I grabbed my car keys and ran to the door. When I opened it, the pastor and his wife were already standing there.

Prayer and scripture reading by the pastor and his wife initiated the deliverance process. When he tried to anoint me with oil, I recoiled away from him hearing myself screech. There are only a few things I recall clearly about my deliverance. Most details were given to me by the pastor and my sister.

We went through the entire house removing items consecrated to the demonic realm I served my entire life. Images of my hands going through drawers and closets, finding the box with Iemanjá and my beads, the rosary above my bed, clothes, jewelry, occult books, records, and video tapes, are my main recollections of the event. Like in a dream, I also remember crouching behind my house, digging the dirt with my fingers trying to unearth a statue of St. Joseph buried upside-down (a superstitious ritual to sell my house).

My sister however, related horrific details later on to me about the deliverance. Physically, I became transformed. My eyes turned black with hatred. Like a serpent’s tongue coming in and out of my distorted mouth, I spat and blasphemed God. My hands like claws threatened the pastor. When the pastor placed a crucifix on my forehead, the demon laughed hysterically. But when he placed an empty cross over my forehead declaring Jesus Christ’s victory over death, His resurrection, and that our sins were forgiven by His precious blood, the demon screeched in agony saying it was being burned. Momentarily, I remember opening my eyes to a silhouette of a cross. The light felt bright like the sun, blinding me to the point where I had to cover my eyes with my arm.

Finally, when the pastor yelled, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her,” Satan’s stronghold yoke in my life was broken. Like a bomb exploding around me, my body flew high in the air. And I was thrown several feet halfway the length of the hallway. When my back crashed on the tile floor, I opened my eyes. Amazingly, the force of the impact didn’t injure me. Instantly, a dark veil lifted from my eyes. I stood smiling, in awe of my surroundings. Now I understood what it meant to be born again. I was a new creation in Christ. The old had gone. Never before had I felt such peace. Christ had truly set me free.

It surprised me to see my sister sobbing into her hands. I had no idea she was present since she arrived after the deliverance started. The air smelled of sulfur and smoke. I looked at the clock. It was two in the morning. It seemed as if only a couple of hours had passed. But the deliverance lasted more than eight hours. When my husband arrived, the first thing he noticed were several trash bags filled with items to be burned. The second thing was the smell of smoke in kitchen. Even though the pastor assured him this was residual odor from the deliverance, my husband still rushed to the refrigerator, pushing it away from the wall, certain we had an electrical fire.

PART VIII
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, NIV).

The day after my deliverance was Resurrection Sunday. Even though I only slept for three hours, I was able to wake up without an alarm clock for the first time in my life. Feeling refreshed, I rushed out of the house to attend my first sunrise service.

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!

Jesus Christ used this missionary pastor to bring the Good News of Salvation and deliverance from the occult to many members of my family. He ministered to our family in Florida, in Massachusetts, and Brazil. Many were saved and now live for Christ, and Christ alone. My parents, my sister and her family, my family and I all accepted Jesus Christ as our only Lord and Savior. We were all baptized in my sister’s pool.

As soon as we became Christians, my parents changed Pyramid Printing’s name to Hosanna Printing. After the business was passed on to me and my sister, the name was changed to Redeemer Printing. All for his Honor and Glory.

And now, when I look at my grandchildren’s innocent faces, I shudder to think they could have inherited these demonic curses.

Praise the Lord for His promise of lavishing unfailing love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep his commandments.

PART IX
AFTERWORD
“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” (2 Timothy, NIV).

After my deliverance and salvation, it took me many years to openly share my past involvement with the occult. While researching for Christians with past experiences in spiritism online, I found Laura Maxwell’s ministry, Our Spiritual Quest. Laura’s testimony is powerful. Her humble and gentle manner in reaching out to those who are entangled in any type of occult practice is inspiring. I became an avid follower of her radio program and blog. We connected through social media and her encouragement, gave me the courage to write my testimony, even though it took me nearly two years to finally complete it.

Her interviews with Mark Hunnemann, and many other guests with past occult experiences are edifying. I read Mark Hunnemann’s brilliant book, Seeing Ghosts through God’s Eyes, and soon we connected on social media too. Both Laura and Mark have been a tremendous blessing in my life, and I thank God for their lives.

I pray for those who read this and are not saved, to ask Jesus Christ into their hearts. If you are, or were involved in the occult in any way, including horoscopes, Ouija boards, fortune-telling, or any involvement in the New Age, spiritism, Yoga etc., please ask the Lord to deliver you from it. Find a Bible teaching church and ask for God’s direction in all areas of your life.

Though my testimony is not unique, it illustrates occult practices in detail that many may not be familiar with. Sadly, the kingdom of the occult is spreading at alarming rates, infiltrating all areas including schools, healthcare, and even churches. The fact that many pastors ignore this topic and turn a blind eye to this spiritual holocaust is distressing.

Some may ask how can healing the sick, or aiding a person in need be from Satan? The Word of God teaches us through many verses in Scripture about Satan’s deceitfulness: “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14, NIV); “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, NIV).

For those who believe they have seen, or contacted the spirit of a departed loved one, this is also a scheme of the devil. Familiar spirits are demons who show themselves in human form only to deceive. Demons have been here on earth since the beginning of time. They know intimate details about our lives: Births, deaths, marriages, infidelities, friendships, betrayals, and even the most basic day-to-day information about us and our loved ones, living or dead.

Satan’s goal is to use his craftiness and trickery to stray humans from God’s truths, and eternal salvation. But, when we put our trust in Jesus Christ, and give our lives to Him, our eyes are opened to His truth, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:11-13 NIV).

Open Letter To All Christian Paranormal Investigators

An Open Letter to Christian Paranormal Investigators (with signatures)

Preface:

This is a humble and heartfelt plea to Christian Paranormal Investigators from Mark Hunnemann (who initiated and drafted this communication) and Laura Maxwell (Former Spiritualist) and Dana Emanuel (Former Ghost Hunter) who support this statement and added invaluable insights, as well as the 60 signatures at the bottom.

31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31)
“Be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16
“If I profess with loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the Truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not professing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battle front besides, is mere flight and disgrace, if he flinches at that point.” (attributed to Martin Luther).

In our day, ‘that little point’ is our obedience to the inerrant Word of God in response to the onslaught of the pagan/occult worldview and techniques which have infiltrated the church. As Dr. Peter Jones has clearly shown (The Other Worldview, etc), the pagan worldview is THE dominant enemy of the biblical worldview today, and as such, it is that ‘little point where the devil is most fiercely attacking’. The question is: will we be faithful, loyal soldiers for Christ, in OUR generation, or will we flee due to accommodating it—or worse, practicing it ourselves (i.e. through occult methods)? Fascination with the paranormal has mushroomed and has demonized the spiritual landscape of America and Europe. And if we don’t respond quickly and appropriately, then our children and grandchildren will not be ready for the difficult days ahead.

Today, the Church and the world are being besieged; indeed there is an unprecedented disaster unfolding before our very eyes, and sadly, it involves Christians in the paranormal community. Hence, this letter is lovingly addressed to you.

Many of us (see signatures below) are former paranormal investigators, and all of three of us are actively involved in helping people with demonic issues, so this is not ‘ivory tower reflections’. We see it as our timely duty to write this declaration in light of the current lapses into occultic beliefs and practices amongst our fellow believers, and in the world at large. We offer this in a spirit of humility and love, with the hopes that it will stir further dialogue and change. We are all sinners, saved by grace—faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, plus nothing (Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 3-4). This is not us vs. them/you—it is all of US together. With a similar motivation that caused Martin Luther King, Jr. to write his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” to fellow Christians, we offer this letter of our beliefs and concerns to you, our dearest brothers and sisters in Christ.

With tears, we must insist that Christians engaged in paranormal investigating are especially surrendering at this ‘one little point’, by the adoption of occultic beliefs and practices, which are opposed to the Lordship of Christ over the full spectrum of life (1 Cor. 10:31), and the clear teaching of God’s Word, which has absolute authority over us, and demands implicit obedience. The use of occultic/pagan techniques in virtually all paranormal investigations is distressing to God, and to us. Indeed, the solicitation of EVP’s (or other electronic equivalents) has become the backbone of investigations.

“The end justifies the means” …”We are trying to help people” is an unbiblical form of ethical reasoning that has infiltrated the paranormal community, as a former investigator, Dana Emanuel, has affirmed from her own experience. You can never truly help someone by disobeying God. Instead you will hurt them and yourselves. God’s curses/discipline is still in place just as His blessings are. (See Acts 5; 1 Cor. 10-11; Heb. 12)

God’s Truth and the work of Christ’s church both insist that truth demands loving confrontation of both evil and error. What good is it for you to profess Christ ever so loudly, and yet surrender at this point where the devil is attacking? What good is it for you to affirm the full inerrancy of the bible, and a host of other biblical teaching, if you are not living under the Lordship of Christ over the full spectrum of your lives, especially when it comes to the occult, and how we interact with the spirit realm? It is this lack of obedience to Christ in a crucial area which we are lovingly confronting, and asking you to repent of.

Highlighted points:
The singular honor and dignity of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His all-sufficient and perfect atonement, is our focus and passion. Certain beliefs and practices in the paranormal community, either implicitly or explicitly, deny the perfection of the Person and Work of Christ.
1. When Laura Maxwell realized she was deceived some years ago, by a group of Christians who all believed in, the now popular global Christian trend, that they were receiving revelation from alleged ‘holy angels,’ she left that group and sought a deliverance minister. She repented and had demons cast out of her! Even after her many years in healing and deliverance ministry, she, too, had been deceived but sought help! She shared this in a radio interview on angels we did together last year. Nobody is above being deceived!

2. Occult practices are so thoroughly and consistentlke an explicit command in the NT to abolish them. Instead, the NT continues to express God’s unchanging, implacable hatred of all occult beliefs/techniques. (E.g. see Acts and Revelation) The best book on biblical ethics (law and gospel, law and grace, and the place of OT moral law in the NT, etc, is John Frame’s book “The Doctrine of the Christian Life”, P&R).

3. The clients don’t need validation of something they already know is true; they need deliverance/conversion. If you are truly called by God, then you may consider deliverance as a vocation.

4. TESTING THE SPIRITS in Jesus’s name, along with praying for protection, will often be ineffective because God does not listen to us if we are engaged in heinous sins or cherish sin in our hearts (Psalm 66:18).

5. Basing beliefs primarily on non-biblical books (e.g. Enoch) has become common, but it must be avoided, as it detracts from the sufficiency of Scripture, and has led to much unedifying speculation. For example, some take issue with our claim that all alleged ghosts are demons, and they frequently base their beliefs on extra-biblical texts, myths, folklore, and their own experience…none of which are infallible. Actually, they are all very fallible…

Dana Emanuel used to be the team leader of a highly proficient paranormal investigation team, and experienced severe oppression as a result, as are many of you. She is a vital part of drafting this letter, and here is the link to her testimony and articles, which we HIGHLY RECOMMEND.www.xposingtheenemy.com

Many excellent articles and interviews by Laura Maxwell, a former Spiritualist and daughter of a Medium, and according to Mark and others, one of the worlds’s leading experts on all things
supernatural. https://ourspiritualquest.com/

We know that you like we, ache and agonize over the spiritually hostile situations many people today are experiencing. Further, we know that many of you have given so much of your heart, time, energy, and finances to help folks in distress. We know many of you personally and we love you, and are in awe of your desire to help people. That is not the issue. The issue is this: are the means by which you are attempting to help people honoring or dishonoring to God?

There are no morally neutral acts. 1 Cor. 10:31 is crucial to our view of this situation. 31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. “ (1 Cor. 10:31) Scripture has all the divine Words we need for every situation we face, including helping spiritually oppressed people. Every thought, word, and deed is either done to God’s glory or to the glory of an idol. So, how can we help people in spiritually hostile situations in a way that brings glory to God and not to an idol?

Sadly, we know that you are not glorifying God with your actions, regardless of your motives. How can we be certain of that? God’s Word is clear…very clear, as we shall see. Because God’s Word is certain, it is possible to be certain and not arrogant. We despise and despair of any self-righteous judgementalism; but we speak the truth in love, with a collective broken heart.

Wanting to help people cannot be the sole judge of whether an action is morally right: our actions have to conform to God’s Word and glorify Him. (1 Cor. 10:31) Whether it makes us feel good certainly cannot be the determining factor of an action’s propriety in God’s eyes. Due to distressing life circumstances, some of you find your purpose or significance in helping others with paranormal problems, and that makes it all the more difficult for you to imagine life without it. It is all you have that gives your life meaning, and so you cling to it. However, as new creations in Christ (Gal: 2:20), you have to realize that such thinking is idolatrous. (See Jer. 2:13) Christ, and Christ alone, can give us security and significance.

Perhaps the greatest need in the church today is a keener grasp of God’s burning holiness; a deficient understanding of God’s holiness has led to moral laxness and deficient views of both law and grace. God Himself is our ultimate ethical Norm; and He is unchanging. (Malachi 3:6) We meet the Incarnate Word as we read His Inscripturated Word (bible); both are equally, The Word.

Often we hear: “I’ve been involved in investigating for 20, 30, and 40 years…” However, longevity in the paranormal field does not make one wiser, as many assume, because the longer you are immersed in darkness, the more your mind will be affected with a spirit of demonic delusion, confusion and obsession; and your conscience will be increasingly defiled until it is seared. (As Dana points out, it happened to her, even though she was loathe to admit it at the time).

Countless ex-investigators have confessed that they had become obsessed with the thrill of ‘the hunt’ or the collection/review of data. Obsession is often a sign of demonic oppression, or a step in that direction. There are many rationalizations and objections that folks raise against what we are saying, and we can’t address them all, but the issue is: will you have a soft, humble, teachable heart before God and bow before His absolute, sovereign authority?
Proverbs 1:7

If you read nothing else in this open letter, please read this text which was breathed out of God’s own holy Mouth (2 Timothy 3:16-17) The entire text comprises an indivisible unit in the Hebrew bible.

9 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, [e]anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer 11 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, 12 for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, 14 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.
15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to Him you shall listen— 16 just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ 17 And the Lord said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or[f]who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ 21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. (Deut. 18:9-25, ESV, emphasis added)
6 “If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.7 Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. (Lev.20:6-7)

God wants you to listen to HIS voice (the Good Shepherd), and not the voice of demons! “Whoring after them…” reveals the true nature of what you are doing in God’s eyes: spiritual adultery.

20 “No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22 Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?” (1 Cor.10: 20-21)

By communicating with the spirit realm (realm of Satan/demonic), you are participating/communing with demons; and are provoking the Lord to jealousy, and bringing unspeakable harm upon yourselves, which grieves us deeply. Your actions are affecting your children and grandchildren; your future offspring!! Generational curses are in the bible, and we have dealt with them time and again in deliverance. Some of you are suffering in various ways because of your unwitting involvement with demons.

We’d like to ask you a question: are any parts of these texts (especially verses 9-14) unclear to you? Indeed, God’s Word is so clear that it leaves us without excuse.

To make it even plainer, let us put it in the form of a syllogism, which is common in ethical literature.
Major premise: Attempting to speak to the dead is an abominable sin (10-11)
Minor premise: Investigators attempt to speak to the dead (often electronically)
Conclusion: Therefore, Investigators are committing an abominable sin.

This syllogism is both valid and sound; the conclusion follows irresistibly from the premises, and they (the premises) are true.

It doesn’t just say that the communicating with the spirit realm is abominable but that those who do it become an abomination in His sight. That is frightening, is it not?

In light of the manifest clarity of this text, why do Christian ‘investigators’ still attempt to speak to the dead, or use psychics/mediums? There is no excuse. None.

However, here are several reasons why we did, until our eyes were opened.

First, we say with utmost gentleness, many of us have been drawn to seeking the paranormal due the traumatic death of a loved one. Our heart goes out to you if that happened to you, but you must resist this temptation because it will not help you, and will only compound your pain—the devil is so cruel, and often takes advantage of us when we are most emotionally broken. The strongest believers can emotionally unravel in the face of tragic loss, and some of us deal with this agony on a daily basis. Perhaps you cling to this practice as it is the only thing that gives your life meaning.

The second reason is that perhaps your conscience allows you to investigate; it doesn’t bother you, so you assume it must be okay. However, the bible doesn’t see our conscience as being infallible; it is subordinate to scripture. It is not uncommon for us to mute the voice of conscience by habitual sin.

From personal experience, we know that it is possible to sink into devastating sin (of all different kinds), and the voice of conscience becomes increasingly dim—but we cannot remain in that situation indefinitely because “He who perseveres to the end will be saved.” (Matt.10:22) Sometimes our conscience says that something is right when the bible says it is wrong, and vice versa. (E.g.Rom.14-15) We must seek to inform/educate our conscience with the content of Scripture, or it can lead us astray, as the following text shows.

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared.”, (1 Timothy 4:1-2, ESV)

Third, many people think that Old Testament laws, like the text in Deut.18, are no longer binding under the New Covenant, and that the New Covenant gives them new freedom to contact the spirit realm.

False teachers in the church are promoting this antinomianism. We don’t have the time to adequately defend what should not need defending; namely, our comprehensive obedience to all of God’s Word.
However, God is the author of both covenants, and the covenant documents of each continue to be normative for God’s people. Jesus indicates in Matthew 5:17ff and Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that the Old Testament moral law (civil and ceremonial law has been fulfilled in Christ, but they are still normative in what they teach us) is a guide unto righteous living for New Covenant believers. In Paul’s text he is referring mostly to the Old Testament, and its abiding validity as a source for training us in godly living.

If the OT law cannot justify or save us, is it then obsolete for Christians? Do we just throw the law out? Quite otherwise. 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 5:17-19) we can see how very clear Jesus is on this point.

We are still obligated to obey God in the New Covenant. Indeed, we are told over and over that our love for Christ is expressed through obedience to the law/commandments. (Exodus 20:6; Deut.11:27; Daniel 9:4; John 15:4, 14; 1 Cor. 7:19; Rev.12:17 ECT,) The law commands us to love, and that love commands us to keep God’s commandments. Law requires love, and love requires law. A reckless disregard for God’s law could be a sign of an unregenerate heart. The “law of love” has no content without love of the law. Some will ‘cherry pick’ the few theologians who will support their attempts to circumvent OT moral law and indeed to circumvent the prohibition of communicating with spirits.

Occult practices are so thoroughly and consistently condemned in the OT that it would take an explicit command in the NT to abolish them. Instead, the NT continues to express God’s unchanging, implacable hatred of all occult beliefs/techniques. (E.g. see Acts and Revelation)

We say this with all humility, but if you have no qualms whatsoever about communicating with the spirit realm, then you are either: 1) abysmally ignorant of scripture, or 2) you are not a true, regenerate Christian.3) Although you are a born again Christian, you are being disobedient and grieving the Holy Spirit. Thus, this is an exceedingly serious matter.

Let us return to Deut. 18:

The entire section quoted above comprises a unity in the Hebrew text: the first half is devoted to illegitimate means of seeking spiritual guidance, which includes the abominable practices of seeking to communicate with the dead, and the use of psychics and mediums. In other words, seeking wisdom apart from God via occult methods. The second half of chapter 18 is devoted to the legitimate means of seeking God’s wisdom via His prophets. Indeed, there is a Messianic prophecy of The coming Prophet, which is quoted about Jesus three times in the New Testament (John 1:21; Acts 3:22-24; 7:37).

Hence, if you reject Deut. 18:9-14 and its prohibitions against communicating with the spirit realm, then to be consistent, you would have to throw out the Messianic prophecy of Jesus as The coming Prophet, because this text is a tight unit. Or if you object that you are not seeking illicit wisdom from the spirit realm, but confirmation of their presence, then we say that the method is as evil as the motive: contacting the spirit realm is absolutely forbidden in itself. Do not consult mediums/psychics or attempt communication with the dead. Period. God tells us what will help people or hurt them; not our misguided attempts to help people by engaging in syncretism (mixing beliefs/practices); the bane of God’s church since its inception.

Moses, who was educated in the Magick of his day in Egypt, was contrasting how we are to find divine guidance, and God’s abhorrence of pagan/occutlic rituals. (See also Lev.19:26; 1 Samuel 28; 2 Kings 17:17; Isaiah 2:6; 21:6; Micah 5:12; Rev.21-22 and all of the major prophets).

As Dana says in her testimony, it was easy for her to soft-peddle these verses by thinking that she was doing the right thing and God would understand; that the culture had changed drastically since then, and possibly God Himself had changed His mind. But then she realized that God does not change—He is immutable (Malachi 3:6) That God’s Truth is unchanged and unchanging caused Dana’s change of heart. May it change your heart as well; and ours too, as we all struggle with idolatry.

Specific Points:

1. It is out of love that we call our brothers and sisters to repent of beliefs and practices which God sees as spiritual adultery. Over and over in the Major Prophets, God exposes His heart regarding His holy and infinitely intense jealous hatred of paganism and occultic activities, and how much it tears at His heart. How can you read Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel and not be affected by the constant barrage of God’s intense, jealous rage over occult practices, such as you are doing?

Entire reigns of kings in the historical books were summarized as good or bad, depending on how they dealt with the occult. In one sense, Josiah was the greatest Old Testament king, and his zeal for God was manifested in how thoroughly he rid the nation of all occult practices. “”4 Moreover, Josiah put away the mediums and the necromancers and the household gods and the idols and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might establish the words of the law that were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord. 25 Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses, nor did any like him arise after him.”(2 Kings 23:24-25) Notice the close connection between Josiah’s unprecedented love for God, love for His law, and his putting away mediums and necromancers.

2. We lovingly challenge paranormal investigators to see their primary identity as children of the Living God and part of His Church-the Body of Christ, and not primarily as members of the paranormal community. (Romans 12; 1 Cor. 12; Eph.5; Gal. 3-4) He wants us to transform culture and not be conformed to it (Romans 12:1-2)-to be salt and light. Further, we believe that it is the paranormal community itself which is accelerating this individual and corporate disobedience due to it being a plausibility structure; shared beliefs and passions make it easier to rationalize disobedience to God’s clear commands, and to believe things which are actually implausible. Two of the attributes of scripture are its sufficiency and clarity, and your lack of perceiving the clear truth is deeply concerning to us. The more deeply you become involved, the more of a deluding darkness takes hold of the reasoning process, where things that should be clear, aren’t; a dark veil has descended, and you begin to blame God for the distressing circumstances that your actions have brought about—God’s discipline and/or demonic oppression.

Praying for protection, or for discerning spirits in Jesus’ Name, before/during an investigation will often be ineffective because God does not listen to us if we are engaged in heinous sins or cherish sin in our hearts (Psalm 66:18) Why do you pray to Michael for assistance, or other angels, when neither Jesus nor the apostles ever did? Why pray to an arch-angel when God, the Holy Spirit, is infinitely stronger and present with us always? It’s one thing to pray to God for HIM to send His holy angels, but angels do not want us to pray TO them, which is a form of worship. And your requests for discernment will be blocked as well because of grieving the Holy Spirit, who gives discernment.

Does it concern you, as it does us, that so many investigators are themselves plagued with demonic activity, and are suffering in a multitude of ways? This is the deep, dark secret of the paranormal community.

3. Specifically, we call our brothers and sisters to stop all attempts to communicate with the deceased (e.g. EVP’s, Ghost box, Ovulus, etc.); to not view oneself as a medium/psychic, nor use mediums/psychics in investigations. It is disturbing to see the unabashed use of ‘Christian Mediums’, when that should be seen as an unholy oxymoron. You are utterly deceived if you believe God has gifted and called you as a medium; He has not. He does not speak out of both sides of His Mouth. He doesn’t condemn mediumship and then call one to it. It is a common error for folks to mistake their human spirit/passions for the voice of the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit works in tandem with the Word. And the relativism of truth has crept into many Christians approach to the moral absolutes of the bible.

Investigators are increasingly using parapsychological categories in place of biblical categories; being conformed to the world by the allure of false science instead of being transforming agents of culture (Rom. 12:1-2) Many investigators affirm the dangers inherent in Ouija Board use, but they fail to see that there is no qualitative difference between soliciting EVP’s (or other electronic means) and a Ouija session.

Not all Ouija sessions are frivolous; some are serious and sincere attempts to communicate with the spirit realm, (just as you are doing), yet we know the horror stories associated with them. Many cases we are called to are rooted in playing with Ouija boards and the like. And those of us in deliverance ministries often have to come in after investigations have stirred up the hornet’s nest due to the use of occultic techniques.

Both Ouija and EVP’s address any spirits there to make their presence known. Both are explicit attempts to communicate with the dead, which is clearly forbidden and condemned throughout the bible. The means of communicating with the spirit realm are mushrooming, but they are equally heinous in God’s eyes. The veneer of science behind these methods must not be seen as excusing them, much less sanctioning them. It is whitewashing wickedness.

It is our experience from studying all the relevant biblical texts, that every attempt to support notions common in the paranormal community, always commit one or more exegetical/hermeneutical fallacies. Indeed, the texts appealed to usually undermine the very beliefs being defended by Christians in the paranormal community. (E.g. Mark 6)

In paranormal seminars what is often called “phenomenology”, is the tendency to identify entities in your investigations by your five senses and intuition…which is naive’. If Satan can appear as an angel of Light (2 Cor. 11:14) then it would be a snap for him/demons to appear as anything. (And we have seen some really bizarre manifestations.) In light of this biblical fact, why do Christian investigators continually attempt to identify entities based on appearance, sound of voice, smells, or some kind of intuition? Why believe the voice of a demon? If they are anything, demons are masters of deception, who were there 100 years ago and can mimic all the findings of the historical research. Thus, they have been successful countless times in misguiding investigators into thinking that they have discovered the alleged ‘deceased human’ who is causing the problems. Failure to take into account the reality of demons has led many Christians to embrace shameful beliefs and to view the phenomena/data through distorted lenses.

There are gradations of sin (and hell, Romans 2:5) and occultic sins are especially heinous in God’s eyes. (John 19:11; Lev. 4:2, 13; 5:17; Numbers 15:30; Ezekiel 8:6, 13, 15; Matt. 5:19; 23:23; Deuteronomy 18—all the Major Prophets). And to engage in them is to jeopardize one’s eternal destiny. How can you continue doing what you know God hates? “He who perseveres (in obedience) to the end, will be saved.” Since it is the HOLY Spirit who gives us assurance of salvation, it is impossible to have genuine assurance of salvation when engaged in such unholy activities. Hebrews 12:14 We fear that many, who profess Christ, don’t possess Christ. “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord…” Matthew 7:21-18 … without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Have you ever stopped to ask if your spiritual authority is being compromised as a result of your grievous sin? And we know from painful experience that investigating the paranormal causes demonic oppression, whether you realize it or not. So, when you go to help someone, you are likely bringing demons with you, which unwittingly infest them further. And without a doubt, your occultic techniques make it worse for the client by opening new demonic doors, or making old ones ‘wider.’

Many of you are hesitant to even mention demons to your clients because it might ‘scare them.’ But is that wise since the bible says that there are only two entities in the spirit realm: good and bad angels (demons/unclean spirits/elemental spirits are all synonyms)? Laura responded the same way in her first few years as a Christian, scared she’d frighten people, until she felt God urged her to tell the truth or otherwise she’d be lying to them!

The bible mentions demons and Satan. It’s the truth. They’ll be more scared if they die without knowing the truth or knowing Christ as Savior… Laura was grateful when a Christian told her that the spirits she spoke with were demons. As soon as she believed this, she was desperate to be free of them, scared or not!

If you don’t tell them the truth about demons, you are in a sense allowing them to continue to believe a lie; you are lying to them.

And by appealing to earthbound spirits, poltergeists, and residual energy (a book is forthcoming showing how vacuous this notion is), you are telling the client there is peace, when there is no peace. False prophets were condemned in the OT for saying that. It also destroys biblical hope.

Hence, we see no positive purpose behind paranormal investigating, as it is practiced today. The clients don’t need validation of something they already know is true; they need deliverance/conversion. If you are truly called by God, then you may consider
deliverance as a vocation. In light of 1 Cor. 10:31, we can see no redeeming value nor any hope of paranormal investigating bringing glory to God. Indeed, it dishonors God’s holy Name, when we are called to “hallow His Name”.
We affirm that all genuine paranormal activity is demonic activity, as neither holy angels nor the Holy Spirit will act mischievously, and angels are our servants. (Hebrews 1:14). And humans immediately go to heaven or hell after they die. (Heb. 9:27)The perfection of the atonement is at stake regarding the demonic notion of ‘earthbound spirits.’, and it is one of Satan’s most effective lies.
If your ultimate authority is the Roman Catholic Church, and the teachings of its well known exorcists, then we gently but firmly state that their view of justification is a false gospel (Gal. 1), and no human authority must be placed on par with God’s Word. Purgatory is a direct assault on the singular honor and dignity of the Person and Work of Christ and His finished work on the cross.

Conclusion: There is much more we had wanted to say, but from the depths of our hearts we beg of you to listen carefully to what we have said, even if it initially upsets you. In summary, even if you persist in believing in earthbound spirits, the bible clearly says to not attempt communication with the dead. Neither Jesus nor the early church communicated with earthbound spirits (Moses and Elijah weren’t earthbound), and they didn’t conduct paranormal investigations or assist deceased spirits in “crossing over”, because our thrice-holy, omnipotent God and Judge Reigns over every atom in the cosmos, especially our souls! (Eph. 1:11)

We are called to imitate Christ, and Jesus Himself is the Light—let us point them to Him. Our Savior didn’t have a ministry to the dead, and neither did the apostles. They weren’t involved in paranormal investigations. So, why should you? Certainly this would have been part of the Great Commission if it were true! Focusing your time and energy on paranormal investigating and assisting souls to ‘cross over,’ is not part of the Great Commission. Thus, we feel you have been distracted from that explicit calling to all believers.

We urge you to re-focus your energies on reaching out to the lost and making disciples, while they may still be found, and helping those who are demonically oppressed, by cleansing them and their homes of unclean spirits. God is so gracious and merciful and He can use you to re-direct your focus on reaching the ‘living lost’ and delivering people from demons! If He can use us toward that end, then He can certainly use you!

Like Laura did, please seek deliverance if it is needed, as we know many of you are oppressed.

The Paranormal Truth

DB764295-36D2-4ACD-9770-BDC9918A8633

“The Paranormal Truth”, by Dana Emanuel

I recorded this video, and wrote this blog, to give people a true understanding of the “paranormal”, and spiritual warfare, and the “putting on of the full armor of God”.

In sharing my testimony, I explained how I came into the occult from a very early age and how it became an obsession of mine, and where it eventually led me. I am also sharing with everyone, some of the true paranormal accounts of hauntings that I experienced while in the paranormal field. As part of my research in the paranormal, the question that is often overlooked and almost always rejected by others, which often would come into my mind, and that was, “are all these spirits that claim to be the spirits of our departed loved ones, actually be demonic spirits, masquerading as such”?

I finally came to realize the truth, about what these entities really were. It wasn’t until my family and I suffered a lot of spiritual attacks, that I became desperate enough to get the answer to this question and by facing it head on, and finally, accepting that truth, the truth about Jesus, and the truth about the schemes of the enemy, Satan.

We are all born into a spiritual war. Some people are taught about it early in life and are equipped early, and therefore are better prepared and protected from the schemes of the devil, but then there are some of us that learn later in life, having been deceived and wounded by the enemy, suffering great loss in this battle, that we were not armed to fight against.

You see, although I attended church as a child, and although I knew about Jesus, I did not know the schemes of the enemy, and I did not know God’s Word. God’s Word is our “sword”. God’s Word is our weapon against the enemy. I felt that since I “believed that Jesus was real”, I thought I was protected, no matter what I did. I thought that if I owned a bible, (without actually reading It and applying it to my life) that I was protected. This is the very reason that even many Christians today become wounded and defeated. They do not truly “believe on Jesus, and have faith in Him, or simply give the battle to Him, and most importantly, they do not obey Him and his word.

In order to fight this spiritual battle and have victory, having faith in Jesus was the only option I had left, and this was where my victory, was ultimately found! Glory to God!

In this blog I will examine what the bible says about the afterlife and the spiritual world.
I will also discuss schemes of the enemy.

I want to mention up front, that in no way will this video/blog “glorify” the work of Satan, but instead, will “warn” others of his schemes, as the Bible tells us:

Matthew 10:16 KJV
[16] Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

2 Corinthians 2:11 KJV
[11] Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

This video/blog gives ALL THE GLORY TO GOD!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV
[19] What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [20] For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

I will answer questions regarding the paranormal, and I will do so, In light of scripture.

God forbids only those things that will harm us. One of the things He forbids is the act of “consulting the dead.”

(necromancy) You see, Satan roams around seeking whom he may devour. Anything that God prohibits in the bible, is bad for our spiritual and/or physical health. Satan probes us to find our weaknesses. (Sifts us as wheat)

One of our greatest weaknesses, is our love for family members and friends. And naturally, we have compassion for those that are suffering and defenseless.

When we have a family member whom passes away, our grief we carry from our loss truly can be an opportunity for the enemy to take advantage of. He will try to gain access to us, through masquerading as our deceased loved one. He will display knowledge of things and show evidence in order to compel us to believe it is truly them. Satan is not omnipresent like God is, but as the bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12, there are principalities and powers and rulers of darkness in this world, and there are demonic spirits that are around us all the time, to tempt us and to report to God when we sin or do anything against scripture. As seen in scripture, in the book of Job, as Satan is the accuser.

Scripture tells us to not consult with the dead, and to do so is an abomination to God.
Deuteronomy: 18. 10. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 14. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. 15. The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; –

Isaiah: 8. 19. And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

14FAE4EF-5B1B-417F-BBA7-9A246011EA23

An “abomination” is something that is grossly detestable, and is so out of the normal as opposed to what was intended by God, and carries great implications for doing them. The reason God forbids us to consult with the dead is because he knows that our departed loved ones are not the ones that would be responding to us. Scripture is very clear on the state of the dead and the impossibility of departed spirits to come back to communicate with us, which I will go over shortly.

All information coming from these familiar spirits are meant to deceive us, and lead us astray. The way Satan works is, he will mix truth in with lies, to gain our trust. God warns us that those with familiar spirits will “defile” us.
Defile means: to make one unclean or pollute morally.

Here are some of the false messages that come from these “spirits”. Then  I will list scriptures after each one to show how it conflicts with God’s Word:

•There is no hell after we die
People that are unbelievers and the wicked, don’t go to hell when they die, but instead, just roam the earth.

This belief, essentially takes away our fear of hell. If we are in control of what happens to us after we die, by just remaining here on earth after death, hell would no longer be a threat to us. According to scripture, hell is a true reality. Actually, Jesus warned about hell, more than He talked about heaven. And, the Bible also tells us it is immediate, after death, of those that are not saved.

Luke 16:19-23 KJVS
[19] There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: [20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, [21] And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. [22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; [23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

The Bible tells us that hell is something we should fear. We should fear HIM, that can destroy our bodies and our souls in hell.

Matthew 10:28 KJVS
[28] And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

*Don’t the angels know when we die?

Another point we can look at is in the case of Lazarus the beggar,  is when the rich man died, the angels carried him to Abrahams bosom.
Angels are always around us, they encamp around us to protect us, God gives them charge over us, as they would know where we are at all times. So this would mean we don’t die and get lost. (Angels behold the face of our father in heaven ) >>

Matthew 18:10 take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.

The angels that are assigned to us report things to God. They are messengers.

Hebrews 1:14 KJV
[14] Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

D15D13C3-9CC7-4784-933E-D899461A6911

That when the spirits of the deceased “cry out”, that for some reason, God can not hear them or help them, but ghost hunters can??

This could not be further from the truth! God is ALL KNOWING, and He is omnipresent!!

This belief suggests that God does not know where the dead are, or that they even died.

Hebrews 9:26-27 KJVS
[27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Every man is appointed to die at sometime in thier life. God knows when this will be. He knows the end from the beginning! And “after that”, judgement.

Proverbs 15:3 KJV
[3] The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Job 34:20-22 KJV
[20] In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. [21] For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. [22] There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

Psalm 139:6-8 KJVS
[6] Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. [7] Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? [8] If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there .

Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV
[6] Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

That children (whom are under the age of accountability) do not go to heaven when they die, but instead, roam the earth, lost, as if the child were a bastard,

Mark 10:13-14 KJV
[13] And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them . [14] But when Jesus saw it , he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV
[6] Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews 13:5-6 KJV
[5] Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. [6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

God “loses” us, therefore we are not important to God.

God knows every hair on our head. He knows every time a sparrow falls out of a tree.. Are we not more important to him then that of many sparrows?

Matthew 10:29-31 KJVS
[29] Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. [30] But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. [31] Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

We are VERY important to him! When we want to know the value of something, we look to see what someone would be willing to “pay” for it (for example, a house, or car, etc.) so when we question, how much do we mean to God, it can be asked, “how much would He willing to pay for us?” The answer is very clear in scripture. We mean so much to Him, that He purchased us with the blood of His only begotten Son, Jesus!

John 3:16 KJVS
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hebrews 9:26-27 KJVS
[26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself

They claim that they need the ghost hunter to help them “cross over” into the light.

What light? The Bible tells us that Jesus is the light of the world. This would in a sense be truthful though, because the reason these “familiar spirits” can not go to the light, is because they truly are demonic spirits.  In the Bible, did Jesus ever help spirits of dead loved ones while He was on earth doing miracles? Does the Bible mention Him sending any “ghost”, to a “light”?? No.

*When we think of how widespread the “belief” is, of earthbound spirits of our departed loved ones, there would be at least ONE mention of it in scripture. (or how to “help them”) It does not mention it, because it simply isn’t true.

9F90D1E0-AFFC-4D29-BDAC-43C67276801C

The Bible is siffecient, and tells us all we need to know.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJVS
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
.

It suggests that we can get answers regarding the spiritual world using our 5 senses.

We must get our answers regarding “spiritual things”, from God. Any other source is merely opinions, and unfounded theories. The natural man cannot know the things of God, or things of the spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:10-16 KJVS
[10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. [13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. [14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned. [15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. [16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

We cannot lean on our own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-6 KJVS
[5] Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 14:12 KJVS
[12] There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

All paranormal research groups go by the philosophy, “The proof is in the physical evidence gathered”. This rules out anything that is not seen, heard, smelled, or tasted. In this philosophy, anything of a “spiritual nature” could not be used as evidence. This is an oxymoron. Because you can only test how spiritual occurrences affect things in the natural, but you cannot determine the source of the spiritual, using natural means. Spiritual things must be tested and evaluated using spiritual methods. You see, Familiar spirits are spiritual beings, and they masquerade as the departed spirits of those that are familiar to us, even as your loving, caring grandmother, which could be contacting you with “important information”, which could be either unresolved issues, or it could even be valuable information, such as the location of money.

God tells us to consult HIM, regarding the dead, and specifically tells us not to consult these familiar spirits and mediums, etc.

Isaiah: 8. 19. And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
There is no possible way for the “paranormal investigator” (or medium/psychic) to determine if the spirit is good or bad, unless they “test the spirits”. One can only use true “discernment” if they were to follow the guidelines given to us by God in His Word and if they are true believers.  True “discerning of spirits” is a gift of the Holy Spirit, according to scripture.

1 Corinthians 12:4,10 KJVS
[4] Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. [10] To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues
:

The only way a believer can become sharp in their discernment is to read God‘s word, and to become so familiar with it, that they will know the spirit of truth and distinguish it from the spirit of error.

I once heard an analogy that explained the concept well. It went something like this:
There was a man, that worked for the secret service and his job was to know and detect counterfeit money. And someone asked him, “How can you possibly keep up with learning all the counterfeit details, techniques, and characteristics on the money?” And his answer was, “I do not study all the counterfeit details. I only study the true money, because as long as I am so familiar with the true bills, I will detect the counterfeit when I see it”.
It was when I heard this analogy that I could fully understand that we don’t need to know all the evil schemes of the enemy, but instead, we just need to become sharp in understanding Gods Word. Because as long as we know Gods Word, we will be able to discern when something is not of God, but is in fact, of the enemy.

1 John 4:1-6 KJV
[1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. [2] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: [3] And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. [4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. [5] They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. [6] We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

*The dead (or fallen angels/demons) seeking salvation after physical death?? (or spiritual death In the case of  fallen angels)

Ecclesiastes 9:3-6 KJVS
[3] This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. [4] For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. [5] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. [6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun
.

There is only hope for those that are living, and after death, there is no longer any reward.

*Residual hauntings, is this biblical?

What happens to energy? Does energy dissipate, or just stick around? What about the electrical current that goes through an object? Or how about the emf pumps we used to work with in paranormal research? Once we turned it off, the energy dissipates and is lost. It did not return. Energy is not “intelligent”. The residual haunting logic, is not supported scientifically or biblically.

His place remembers him no more”…

* Haunted homes/objects?

What is the benefit for demons to haunt or hide in an object? The Bible says they wander in dry places but they look for a human body to inhabit, or an animal, but the Bible never mentions demons being cast out of a home or an object. It was always people that Jesus cast demons out of. Jesus never sat in an alleged haunted home with para-phanlia equipment to “detect” ghosts, or even demons for that matter. In His approach to demonic spirits, it was always when He was preaching in public, the demons would manifest in and through a person, (or the demon possessed person would be brought to Jesus by family members) and he would cast it out.

Cursed objects in a home may contribute to demonic activity, just as the sinful lifestyle of the occupant/s will. To own and have possession of cursed objects is a sin in itself.

Deuteronomy 7:25-26 KJV
[25] The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God. [26] Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Once a person truly submits to God,  repents, and gets deliverance, usually all paranormal/demonic activity will stop.

*Casting out demons without a relationship with Christ.

As we see in scripture, if we are not true believers in Christ, we will not have authority over unclean spirits.
Acts 19:13-20
13Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. 18And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Why would these “alleged” human spirits leave in the name of Jesus? It is also very telling, that Aliens, spirit guides, descended masters, holy angels (not true holy angels), also leave when commanded to, in the name of Jesus.

Spiritual Warefare:

The bible tells us that the WORD is our sword. It also tells us what the FULL ARMOUR OF GOD is. With all of these, we will have full authority over unclean spirits, through Jesus Christ!!

Ephesians 6:10-20 KJV
[10] Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places . [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; [15] And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [16] Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: [18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; [19] And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, [20] For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

What Are Familiar Spirits?

What is a familiar spirit?

Familiar spirits are demonic spirits, that respond to those that attempt to communicate with the dead, spirit guides, angels, aliens, or false gods. They mimick those that the sorcerer/necromancer/medium tries to “call up”. These spirits are closely linked to an individual, by either a person, place, or thing.

C1341EA8-67B0-41B6-92F8-5723629FC431

The most “common” way known, that a familiar spirit communicates with people, is through mediums.

What is a medium? The word medium — from the Latin adjective medius, “middle” — has several meanings that all center on the idea of being in between. 1.Medium means something that lies between two other points, people, or levels. 2. A person who transmits messages from the dead. (Familiar spirits)

Familiar spirits are not who they claim to be

These spirits are demonic spirits, that masquerade as our dead loved ones, spirit guides, aliens, angels, or false gods. They manifest in the form of whatever type of spirit that the person is seeking to communicate with. The most common type of spirit that people usually attempt communication with, is the spirit of a deceased loved one.

EA36BD86-BA70-4902-A269-0C2E0116DD18

The reason for this is our natural emotions of grief and despair that we feel when we lose someone close to us, that we love. The enemy takes advantage of our grief. He does not play fair, and he is more cruel than many give him credit to be.

“Familiar Spirits” in Light of the Holy Scriptures

AE4945A4-7497-45D5-88F9-CB821D2E9285

1 Samuel 28:7-15 KJV
[7] Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. [8] And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. [9] And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those tthat have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? [10] And Saul sware to her by the Lord , saying, As the Lord liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. [11] Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. [12] And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. [13] And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. [14] And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. [15] And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

Familiar Spirit, or the Departed Spirit of Samuel?

Amoung many other controversial topics in the Bible, the incident that took place in 1 Samuel is one of the most controversial, especially within the “paranormal community”. Many scholars have debated on this issue, as to whether Samuel himself was actually called up by the medium, or if it was a “familiar spirit”, masquarading as the departed spirit of Samuel. In order for us to know the truth, we must look at scripture and divide the word rightly. After dividing the word rightly, and carefully looking this incident, as it is written, and comparing it with the whole counsel of the Bible, I, and many others, have come to the conclusion that this was actually a familiar spirit, masquaradeing as the departed spirit of Samuel.

This is what led me to this conclusion:

1. Verse 14 says: And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground..

*When we look at the word “perceive”, it means:

Perceive: “to identify by means of our senses.”

The word “perceive” does not necessarily mean the perception was correct. It only means that the perception was based on the information gathered. Things can be perceived correctly, but they can also be falsely perceived.

2. Verse 13-14 ..what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. [14] And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle.

*The medium seen “gods” ascending out of the earth..

I find it interesting that she seen “what appeared to be Samuel”, amoung false gods, ascending out of the earth. This tells me it was a familiar spirit (demonic spirit) as it also ascended out of the earth with the other demonic spirits (false gods).

3. Verse 7 “Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit”..

*This point is very important, as it is actually the very answer to our question, right under our nose. If it had been a snake it would have jumped up and bit me!

4, Dividing the word, with other scriptures:

1 Chronicles 10:13-14 KJV
[13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord , even against the word of the Lord , which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it ; [14] And enquired not of the Lord : therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

*Saul was actually enquiring of the familiar spirit, not Samuel himself.

5. In Luke 16:19-31, The story of the rich man, and Lazerus, the beggar makes a few things clear, which show the impossibility that Samuel himself could have possibly came back from heaven to talk to Saul. It shows that when saved people die, they are immediately carried to heaven by an angel, and the wicked lift thier eyes up, being in torment, in hell. It also says that thier is a great gulf “fixed”, which makes it impossible for someone to leave heaven or hell to talk to the living. Abraham also told the rich man that if the unsaved will not believe Moses and the prophets, they will not believe, though one come back from the dead. So, if God will not allow a departed spirit to “come back” from heaven or hell, for the gospels sake, He will not allow them to come back for any other reason. As the gospel is the most important message anyone could give someone else!

Demonic spirits have been here for thousands of years,

They have been around us and our families, all of our lives, for generations, knowing everything we do, or say, at all times.

7B279B24-8506-4FC9-A78F-948B3C494AEF

When a person tries to communicate with the spirit of a  “departed loved one”, via medium, EVP analysis, ouija boards, downing rods, pendulums, etc., the Familiar spirit will then respond, giving answers that are very personal, and only known by the “spirit” they are attempting to contact.

This “tactic” of the enemy, is the # 1 reason we have so many people in society that believie in “earthbound spirits of our departed loved ones”. These spirits are so  convincing, that in most cases, it is impossible to deny that there is indeed “some kind of spirits” out there, that is attempting contact with us, that have personal knowledge of us and our dead loved ones.

These spirits are not only known to mimick the departed spirits of people we “knew personally”, but they also mimick the departed spirits of people that are “familiar to us” by a particular place, such as where we live. An example of this would be, if a person were to move into a new residence, and a familiar spirit makes its presence known, masquarading as a departed spirit of a person that once lived in that home, and died there. The familiarity in this case would be the residence itself.

It could also be places such as ancient Indian burial grounds, old war fields, or other places where people were killed or died.

Waverly Hills Sanatarium, which many people believe is one of the most “haunted places” on earth. While the building is now primarily a tourist attraction for those fascinated by the paranormal, it used to be a functioning tuberculosis hospital. In 1910, when the hospital was established, this meant a place where between 8,000 and 63,000 people died bloody, excruciating deaths, as there would be no real cure for tuberculosis until streptomycin was invented in 1943. Waverly Hills was also the site of at least two suicides, which strangely enough took place in the same room. With all of that suffering, it’s not surprising that rumors of  ghostly apparitions, paranormal activity, and more have cropped up.

How these spirits usually work

Just as with any other sin, the enemy will try to “tempt us”. They will try to lure us into occult practices. Usually, soon after someone dies, a familiar spirit will attempt to make “contact” with us. They will try to make thier presence known. These attempts can range from the sound of footsteps, or things being moved on it’s own, disembodied voices, physical manifestations that can be seen, such as the form of dark shadow figures, orbs, or full bodied apparitions. It could also be strong smells of things that you would associate with a particular person, such as cigarette/cigar smoke, or perfume. It can also have bad smells, that smell like sulfur, rotten eggs, etc. The problem comes in when people do not “test the spirits”. Is this concept in line with scripture? When these spirits attempt to contact us, or make thier presence known, we need to rebuke it in Jesus name! When this is done, these spirits always flee!

If you or someone you know, is suffering from a haunting

After the spirit flees, as described above, if it returns, you must evaluate the situation. Usually, when there is any type of “haunting”, the familiar spirit has some kind of “legal right” to be there. Something must be contributing to an open door to the demonic. Are you, or someone in your household/family involved with any occult practices?

What are occult practices?

Deuteronomy 18 contains the most powerful biblical passage, outlining the occult. In verses 10 and 11, we find practices of the occult:

Deuteronomy 18:10-11 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

These demonic spirits are subject only to Jesus Christ.

These demonic spirits always flee at the name of Jesus! This is how we know that these familiar spirits are indeed demonic spirits.

Jesus said:

Mark 16:16-18 KJV
[16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. [17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

The Truth About Magic, A Power of Darkness5

~By Dana Emanuel

When people think of magic, they usually think of the kind of magic that is nothing more than “parlor tricks”, these are illusionary tricks, that are carefully planned out, to make it “appear” as if the person performing the magic has “supernatural powers of the mind”, But in fact, they do not.

63B2E2C9-4DAA-4D6E-9E3A-A017B676E2A8.jpeg

But then, there is a type of “magic”, that involves true “supernatural” powers. Many believe that these powers come from one’s own mind. (Psychokinesis) This theory is technically labeled as “pseudoscience”, as it has been unfounded as it has not been proven scientifically.

Psychokinesis, commonly known as “PK”, is believed to be, the ability of using only the mind, Consciously or unconsciously with no physical intervention, to manipulate physical objects.

A51AB758-EDF6-48CC-A79D-30550DCE666B

This concept of has been employed by humans through magic, curious arts,!witchcraft, sorcery, and spiritism, The practice of magic is not new. There is nothing new under the sun. This has been employed as far back as when the bible was recorded. The Bible strongly prohibits using these practices, and for a very good reason, which I will explain further along.

The Spiritual World,  A True Reality

Besides our physical world, that we can see, hear, feel, and taste, there is also a spiritual world. When supernatural occurrences happen, it can not be scientifically explained, or tested in a laboratory. We can oftentimes “observe” supernatural (spiritual) occurrences when they happen, but no one can “physically” prove what the source truly is. But, we do however, have God’s Word, which tells us all that we need to know regarding the spiritual world.

78215718-B79A-4345-97E3-55D2A290E778.jpeg

Supernatural magic, is not the work of the human mind. It is done with supernatural spiritual powers, but these powers are not of God. God does not perform “parlor tricks”.

Powers Of Darkness

I find it very interesting to know that many “magicians” actually admit to the fact that thier supernatural powers are the works of “supernatural spirits/spirit energies”.
One magician in particular, named Mike Super, performed on the TV show, “America’s Got Talent”. He performed magic using a voodoo doll, and he also appeared to teleport from one location on stage, to another area in the room in a matter of a few seconds. He admits openly that his magic “phenomenon” is done with the help of his “spirit energy friend” named “Dezment”.
He says that it all started when he was a child, at about the age of 6. He said this spirit used to write on his chalkboard, “I am Dezment”. He said this happened several times, until he finally answered back, “Hello Dezment”. He said that after he answered back, other things started happening. He says that “Dezment” is the one that caused his magic to happen.

He said that if “Dezment” does not “show up”, then nothing will happen.

4BF1AF7B-5FB4-46B2-AB7E-4F7E3F531C01.jpeg

Once, a man named Manly P. Hall, a 33rd degree Freemason, confessed that all successful magicians were aided by demonic entities in his book, “ The Secret Teachings of All Ages”.

His teachings have been adopted by all mainstream magicians.

The following steps are explained in his book.

1. The magicians have come to accept that the visible universe has an invisible counterpart meaning they truly believe in the habitation of good and evil spirits in our relm and the next.
2. By means of the secret processes of black magic it is possible to contact these invisible entities and gain their help in some human undertaking.
3. it is possible to make contacts with spirits whereby the magician becomes for a stipulated time the master of an elemental being, known as a demon.
4. True black magic is performed with the aid of a demonic spirit who serves the sorcerer for the length of his earthly life, while understanding that after death, the magician shall become the servant of his own demon.

BD42E6C2-4DAF-47D8-8C19-A3B1FBACA97D

These people are truly “selling thier souls” to demonic spirits, in exchange for the supernatural powers for the length of thier earthly life.

The Bible tells us not to practice magic, sorcery, witchcraft, or use divination. There are reasons for God’s Laws. His laws are in place to protect us. When we attempt to use magic or sorcery, it is not the power of God that manifests during these practices. It is the work of demonic spirits. These spirits are here to steal, kill, and destroy. If we disobey God, and yield to using these practices, we will reap the demonic oppression , or perhaps even possession, that will come as a result.

Satan, The Counterfeiter

Satan tries to counterfeit all things of God.

Isaiah 14:12-14 KJVS

[12] How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

One of those things that he tries to counterfeit, is the supernatural miracles performed by God.  The Bible talks about a place called Ephesus, where God wrought special miracles by the hands of Apostle Paul. While some unbelievers seen these miracles, they tried to do miracles themselves, but without knowing Jesus Christ. One miracle in particular that they tried, was to cast an evil spirit out of a man. Thier attempts failed. When they tried casting the evil spirit out of a man, they were overtaken by him, and beaten, naked, and wounded. After this happened, those that heard about it, realized the truth and came to believe in Jesus Christ, as they found that true miracles and wonders were only done by the authority of Jesus, the true Son of God.

AC0F1C93-9D10-423A-B557-07BC69F96B8C

Acts 19:17-20 KJV
[17] And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. [18] And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. [19] Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men : and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. [20] So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Galatians 5:19-21 KJV
[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, [20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, [21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Revelation 21:8 KJV
[8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Magic Vs. Miracles

Supernatural Magic is the work of  demons. Some people may think that magic and miracles are the same thing, but there is a very distinct difference between the two. Magic is the work of demons, and it is always aimed at glorifying ones self.

Miracles on the other hand, are the supernatural work of God. He works miracles because He loves His people, and He also does them, so that people may come to believe. (Exodus 4:1-9),  He also does it to glorify Himself,

Closing Statement:

Many people are seeking a sign.. they are waiting to see some kind of miracle, when the greatest miracle of all is staring them right in the face. God’s love for us, as revealed to us, in the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the ultimate miracle that defies explanation.

Hope For All Who Repent

It is important to know that it is never “too late” for a person that repents and turns to Jesus.  Jesus paid the ultimate price for our souls, and that if those that are practicing magic, we’re to repent of these practices, and submit to Jesus fully, and believe on Him, they can be saved and have eternal life with Him.

Spirit Communication, a Demonic Invitation

Spirit Communication, a Demonic Invitation, by Dana Emanuel

Sitting in front of the television set,  flipping through the channels, chances are, you will find at least one show on, that involves some sort of spirit communications. With so many shows dedicated to “paranormal investigations”, or Psychic phenomena, one could easily understand why Spirit Communications is accepted by society, and why most people see no harm in it. And while it is heavily pushed by the media, the church remains quiet. No one is speaking about it in the church. The statistics of how many Christians that sit in churches every week, but yet believe in earthbound spirits, would most likely be somewhat of a shocking number… considering what the Bible actually says about it.

All spirit communication techniques are against Gods Word. All spirit communication involves contact with demonic spirits.

355E1192-3723-48AF-B090-375EDE7828C0.jpeg

I often shake my head when I hear ghost hunters warn against the use of ouija boards. What they do not understand is, that ALL forms of spirit communications are an abomination to God according to the Bible. Using an ouija board is no different than using dowsing rods, a pendulum, tarot cards, ghost meters, trigger objects, or even a simple voice recorder. Realistically, they all do the same thing. They are all used with the intention of communicating with the “dead”.

201B00FD-5BB0-4062-B256-FC30111EB876.jpeg

There are different reasons why people attempt to communicate with the dead.  Probably the most common reason would be because of the grief one feels after losing thier loved ones, and thier desire to have contact with them. Wanting so badly to feel that they are still here with them.

Another reason would be, our natural fear of death; and curiosity of what is in store for us in the hereafter.

Unresolved issues is also a reason people attempt to communicate with the dead. These issues could range from unanswered questions from our deceased loved ones,  or it could be things such as unresolved crime related issues. An example could be police officers that contact psychics in an attempt to gain information related to crimes committed, surrounding the death of an individual.

Another reason would be an unhealthy attraction to darkness.  There can be a thrill in becoming fearful in certain situations.  An example of this could be when someone wants to watch a scary movie, and they find themselves, under covers with one eye peeking around the sheet that is in thier clinched fist, daring to watch the whole movie, but when the scene gets too scary, they pull the sheet over both thier eyes, but only to pull the sheet back away again, only seconds later, attempting to watch it again. There is a thrilling factor to it. But that “scary feeling” we get when we do these things is our natural feelings and conscience, that tells us, it’s not good, and that it is rather evil.

Ghost hunting also has a thrilling effect, (an euphoria effect). There is something about sitting in a dark room, with all the “up to date” ghost hunting gadgets, daring to do what others are too afraid of doing. Feeling somewhat like a “Spiritual daredevil”. Challenging one’s fearful side.

Sometimes we come across “ghost hunters” that become provocative when communicating with these spirits. They will try to “challenge” these spirits.
This is exceptionally dangerous. Why is this dangerous one might ask? Because spirits have not flesh and blood as we have. We cannot fight a spiritual battle using physical weapons.  These spirits are only subject to Jesus. They can only do what God allows them to do. (Job 1:9-12)

The only time a human has authority over demonic spirits, is when they are born again, believers in Jesus Christ, that are in obedience to Gods Word.

*Mark 16:17, Jesus gives specific instructions to all believers, telling them that all those who believe in The name of Jesus, will have the authority to cast out devils…
Jesus only gives this “authority” to cast out demons, to believers. Unbelievers do not have that right.
For example;

*Acts 19:13-16 the vagabond Jews, exorcists took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus saying we Adjure you by Jesus, who Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said Jesus I know and Paul I know but who are you? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

As I stated above, “The only time a human has authority over demonic spirits, is when they are born again, believers in Jesus Christ, that are in obedience to Gods Word.”

The reason I mentioned “ in obedience to Gods Word”, is because, even if we claim to believe in Jesus, if we dabble in the occult, by doing things that God forbids us to do, we are in danger. In doing these things, in a sense, we are leaving God’s umbrella of protection.

*Proverbs 1:33 KJV
[33] But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

If the enemy merely showed himself as the evil being that he really is, people would do whatever it took to avoid him. But the fact is, he is very deceptive and he will use whatever tactic that best suits you, to destroy you. He “sifts us as wheat”. The enemy comes but to steal, kill, and destroy.

God forbids necromancy, and divination in His holy Word. Some often wonder, “ why is it wrong to talk to my deceased loved one, I’m not hurting anything by doing this”?
But the truth is, all of Gods “laws/commandments” are in place for our own protection. It’s not because he wants to withhold anything “good” from us, but instead, to protect us from something bad.

God tells us in His Word, that when we die, we immediately go to either heaven, or hell. And the Bible says that once someone in in heaven or hell, that there is a “great gulf”, fixed in place, that makes it impossible for those that are in either place, to return to earth, even if it is to go warn (or talk to) the living. (Luke 16:19-31)

So, if these spirits are not the departed spirits of our deceased loved ones, who, or what are they? The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 11:14, that we should take no marvel, for “Satan himself is transformed as an angel of light”

Demonic spirits will mimic the dead. These are called “Familar Spirits”. Familiar spirits are familiar with the person they mimic, as they have followed that family down through the generations, which is the reason why they know so much about the deceased person and their family.

And the Bible tells us, that they will deceive and defile us. (Lev.19-31, Deut.18:10, 2Chronicles 33:6, Lev.20:6, Isa.19:3, Isa.8:19)
In Isaiah, it says:
Isaiah 8:19, And when they Say unto you seek not  them that have familiar spirits and onto wizards a peep and that mutter: should not a people seek onto their God? For the living to the dead?
God wants us to seek him regarding the dead. He gives us all truth in His word. On the other hand, the familiar spirits lie, and will tell us things that are not true. Things that directly conflict with Gods Word. The belief in earthbound spirits alone, is an attack on God’s Word and His truth. This belief is contrary to what the Bible tells us, one example would be, that when unsaved people die, they do not go to hell.
(It takes away the fear of hell)

It gives a false sense of hope to unbelievers, while it takes away the true hope given to the believers.

This is the reason God forbids necromancy, and divination. Satan is here to try to deceive us, and he will masquerade as our deceased loved ones. You see, he always mimics something “good”. Something that will appeal to us. He wants to gain our trust.

When you have a person that is suffering from the grief of losing someone dear to them, the enemy will take advantage of the opportunity, and try to deceive them. This is why in most cases, people will “experience” paranormal activity right after someone they know dies. People want so badly to be able to hold onto their loved ones while it is very difficult for them to accept the fact that they are no longer here. This is a very cruel tactic of the enemy.

Weighing the Evidence:

It’s very interesting to know how many “ghost hunters”, “psychics”, etc., truly rely on their own senses, and trust what these spirits “tell them”. When coming to a conclusion in “paranormal cases”, the evidence that is always presented as “proof” of ghosts (earthbound spirits of our departed loved ones) include things such as:
*EVP recordings (having to trust in what the spirits tell them)
*Photographs of paranormal anomalies (familiar spirits can “appear” as ghost)
*Temperature readings of the area during the investigation.
*EMF readings (again, this can be manipulated by demonic spirits)
*Video footage of paranormal activity.
*Information given through a medium or psychic. (Demonic spirits are known to do this, as even many in the paranormal/psychic community agree that these occurrences do happen at times, but they deny the possibility that this is perhaps always the case.)
All of the types of evidence above, are determined by using our natural senses.

But where the deception comes in is this… when we determine the presence of a “spirit”, we do not have the “natural” ability to distinguish whether the spirit is that of a deceased loved one, or if the spirit is truly demonic. And we cannot go by our own “feelings” either, as the Bible tells us:
Proverbs 14:12 KJV
[12] There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV
[9] The heart is deceitful above all things , and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Proverbs 3:5 KJV
[5] Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Therefore, we must seek God’s word, and what he says. His word tells us,

2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV
[8] We are confident, I say , and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

It also says,
Hebrews 9:27 KJV
[27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Luke 16:22-31 KJV
[22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; [23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. [24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. [25] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. [26] And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. [27] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: [28] For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. [29] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. [30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. [31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
The scripture above, from Luke 16, is very clear. It tells us that immediately, when we die, we are either carried by angels to heaven, or we will lift up our eyes being in everlasting torment. It also tells us that there is a great gulf “fixed” in place, so that anyone in heaven or hell cannot leave.
And most importantly, this scripture tells us that God will not allow one to come back from the dead, even if it is to warn others. And if God were to have any exceptions to this rule, it would definitely be for the gospels sake, as there is not a more important message than the gospel.

Testing The Spirits:

Humans are limited, having to depend on our natural senses. We have a “flawed” nature. Naturally, we determine truth by our “experiences”, through our 5 senses. Some people believe in a 6th sense, but this “sense”, is something that cannot be explained naturally. This phenomenon is supernatural, and actually comes from the spiritual realm. But we must take caution, as there is no true way to determine scientifically/naturally, if it comes from God, or if it comes from the demonic realm. God gives “believers” different gifts. But these gifts are from the Holy Spirit. One of those gifts are “discerning of spirits”. But the “test” that the individual would do, would be to test the situation or the information given, by the Word of God. Does the information given line up with scripture.

Many people believe that “discerning of spirits”is the distiquishment of whether a spirit is a trapped “human” spirit, or a demonic spirit. But this idea is not biblical as it is not found in  scripture! Rather, it is used to distinguish between teachers who are empowered by Holy Spirit or teachers empowered by unholy spirits/demons.. spirit of antichrist.

For example, if a spirit appeared to someone, and claimed to be the spirit of a small child, immediately, the person would know this isn’t possible, because the Bible clearly tells us that spirits cannot leave heaven or hell for unresolved issues. So the person would know that this is a familiar spirit.

If for any reason, you believe the spirits of our departed loved ones are indeed still here with us, please do this one thing. “Test the spirits”, to see if they are of God or not. We need to compare the situation and what is being said, with scripture! And if for some reason, you have an “encounter” with a spirit, you can ask the spirit, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, and that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead? And see what the spirit tells you. And then, command any, and all evil spirits to leave in the name of Jesus!

If you do these things, be rest assured, you will find out the true identity of these demonic spirits, that are masquerading as our deseased loved ones.

When people test these spirits this way, the reactions of these spirits  and thier submission to the name of Jesus is usually all it takes, as this is proof of the authority and power of Jesus Christ,  and the true identity of these demonic spirits!
